Course overview
The Senior Security Officer (SSO) courses are the second rung of Singapore’s Progressive Wage Model (PWM) skills ladder for the security industry. Building on the foundation of the Basic Licensing Units, these three WSQ modules equip experienced officers with more advanced, technology-focused competencies: operating access control and surveillance equipment, performing remote surveillance, and managing disorderly conduct and threatening behaviour.
To upgrade to the SSO rank, you’ll need at least six months of experience as a Security Officer to meet the Years-in-Grade (YIG) requirement, along with completion of these mandatory modules. Once certified, you can take on a Senior Security Officer role — the first leadership step in the security career ladder — with higher responsibilities and a higher wage under the PWM.
The Security Progressive Wage Model, developed by the Security Tripartite Cluster (STC), ties your wages to your skills and rank — so upgrading to Senior Security Officer raises your guaranteed minimum wage. The SSO rank is your first move up the five-rung career ladder:

The SSO pathway is made up of three WSQ modules, each a standalone unit with its own POLWEL assessment. Here’s what each module qualifies you to do.
Operate access control equipment, alarm monitoring equipment, and CCTV monitoring equipment to manage site security.
Perform operation checks, troubleshooting and fault reporting on remote surveillance equipment, identify high-risk areas using surveillance software, observe and analyse behaviour to detect incidents, and document, report and escalate situations to the relevant authorities.
Prepare for work activities, deter threatening behaviour through visible security presence, and manage disorderly or threatening behaviour at the workplace

Course Pre-requisites
The SSO courses are designed for serving officers ready to advance. You’ll need some prior experience and a higher level of English than the entry-level BLU course.

Course Fees
The SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) subsidy covers up to 70% of the course fee for eligible learners. Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above receive the highest subsidy tier (the Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy), while Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 21 and above receive the baseline funding.

SkillsFuture Credit is a government top-up given to every Singapore Citizen aged 25 and above to pay for approved skills courses. All Singaporeans aged 25 and above receive a $500 opening SkillsFuture Credit, and Singaporeans aged 40 and above receive an additional $4,000 Mid-Career SkillsFuture Credit. You can use your SkillsFuture Credit to offset the remaining fee after the SSG subsidy — often reducing what you pay out of pocket to as little as zero. Credits are applied after the SSG subsidy, and our team will guide you through the claim when you register. You can check your balance anytime at myskillsfuture.gov.sg.
Beyond SkillsFuture Credit, you may be able to offset fees using your PSEA (Post-Secondary Education Account) funds, or NTUC UTAP if you’re a union member. These can be combined with the SSG subsidy to further lower your cost.

What you'll earn
On passing each module’s assessment, you’ll receive a WSQ Statement of Attainment issued by SkillsFuture Singapore. Together, the three SOAs form the training qualification required for your Security Officer licence application.
